About The Artwork

It is my pleasure to be perpetually lost in Venice. It is in the twists and turns that I discover the details beyond the gondolas and colorful hanging laundry that make lovely snapshots. So it was on my was to the Accademia bridge one morning that I fell in love with a rough edge of plywood that was covering a storefront under renovation. On the face of the plywood was the remnant of a poster with a rather impactful photograph from another time in history. As I focused on the edge, the story emerged in the space beyond. A blurred figure of this time, this place, seemingly walking into the image on the poster, walking into history, one might suggest. Modern colors stopped by the roughness of the edge, almost as a border into a different era. The inkjet print is professionally printed on matte finish archival rag paper for rich colors and stunning texture, particularly in the rough wood vertical edge. I strongly feel this is an image whose power is best shown in a smaller size with an 8-ply white mat surrounded by a simple white frame. YOU ARE PURCHASING THE PRINT ONLY.

Larry Simon takes his inspiration from seemingly everyday objects, surfaces and scenes to create dreamlike narratives shrouded in a sense of the unknown: the Inner World residing in our subconscious--a place where we cannot fill in all the blanks. As a photographic artist, he often works with a blend of sharp and soft focus, presenting his work in photo collage form or as digital prints. A constant roamer, Larry Simon is based in Chicago. Influences: Gerhard Richter, Saul Leiter, Haruki Murakami, Alfred Brendel
