About The Artwork
The work is inspired by the tragic global phenomenon of female kidnappings, intersected with the suicide of ophelia. The dark background and the subject's hands leave the position of the subject ambiguous: is she running away, or submerged in water? The white of her skin left as negative space from the black imprint of countless hands suggests how her self in this moment is diminished and formed by the abuse of the other.
