About The Artwork

Honorable Mention in the Professional Fine Art Category, 12th POLLUX Awards (2018) - https://www.thegalaawards.com/results-12th-pollux-awards-pro-section. This series was a finalist in PhotoLucida’s 2018 Critical Mass and received an Honorable Mention award from the 2018 International Photography Awards. I have always been interested in science and more recently in quantum mechanics, a branch of physics that deals with the world on the sub-atomic level. I also like to take photos of ballet dancers in rehearsal. So, I decided to combine both passions and the "Uncertainty Nature of Reality" body of work was born. The work consists of images of ballet dancers composed in such a way to remind us of a concept inspired by the quirky laws of quantum physics. The Uncertainty Principle. The uncertainty principle, first recognized by the German physicist Werner Heisenberg in 1926, is certainly one of the most intriguing aspects of quantum mechanics. It has often been regarded as the most distinctive feature in which quantum mechanics differs from classical theories of the physical world. According to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, the uncertainty principle (for position and momentum) states that "one cannot assign exact simultaneous values to the position and momentum of a physical system. Rather, these quantities can only be determined with some characteristic “uncertainties” that cannot become arbitrarily small simultaneously." Loosely applying this definition to the ballet dancer depicted in this image, we know the dancer is moving (has momentum). Therefore, we cannot know for certain where the dancer's legs are, we can only know the probabilities of them being at specific locations. The work is printed on archival fine art paper using Epson pigment ink.

Eduardo Fujii is a fine art photographer living on the Monterey Peninsula in California. At an early age, he demonstrated great interest in the arts. He started music lessons at the age of five followed by painting a few years later. It wasn't until late 2006, however, that he turned to photography as a form of artistic expression. Classical music and painting have been part of most of his life and have certainly contributed to the development of a lyrical sensibility that underlies his photography today. There is always a beautiful prelude playing on the back of his mind when photographing. Eduardo draws inspiration from various talented local photographers and also famous painters like Mondrian, Picasso, Renoir, and Modigliani. His images have a painterly look and reflect his continual pursuit of beauty. He is very committed to photography as art and always leaves part of himself in every image he makes. He truly believes that every photograph is a self-portrait. Eduardo has participated in gallery exhibitions at the Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, Colorado, the Center for Photographic Art and the Cherry Center for the Arts in Carmel, California and has received various awards including Spotlight Awards from B&W Magazine and Color Magazine, PX3 Prix de la Photographie, Professional Photographer Magazine, Monochrome Awards, and the International Color Awards. One of Eduardo's images was selected for the cover of Shadow & Light Magazine. Eduardo was awarded Photographer of the Year at the 12th Annual Black and White Spider Awards. The series "Uncertain Nature of Reality" shown here was a finalist in PhotoLucida’s 2018 Critical Mass and received an Honorable Mention award from the 2018 International Photography Awards.
