PINHOLE PHOTO FINE ART PRINT: SUNSET AT A LAKE IN BLACK AND WHITE This lake is close to my home. On a cold november afternoon I went there during sunset and I was struck by this quiet moment. Often it can be very busy here with a growing city around the corner. I imagined that it used to be like this and felt a connection with the past. The image is part of a photographic tryptic in which I try to draw a line between the past and the present. In the triptych in which the rising moon, sunset and sunrise play an important role, you see the present and the past at the same time a compressed reality. The sun and the moon have always been there and nature has remained. This print is a digital c-print which is a print that has been exposed using lasers or LED lights. After the exposure the paper is processed in photographic chemicals, pretty much like the old way. The prints are produced with a Lambda Printer. C-prints or lambda prints are known for their realistic appearance and their long-lasting colorfast. The print is numbered, signed and comes with a certificate of authenticity. I personally check the print for color, contrast and irregularities before shipping. Using the pinhole technique is one of the most authentic ways to record photographic images. The technique is based on the principle of the camera obscura which is centuries old. Basically it? nothing more then a lightproof box with, in the middle of one side, a tiny little hole instead of a lens. The light works its way through the pinhole right into the enclosed room and that is how at the opposite side of the pinhole an image appears which is upside down. We can preserve the image by putting material which is sensitive to light at the side where the image shows up and develop it after exposure.

Corine Hörmann (1968) is a Dutch photographer who studied scenography and photography at the Academy of Arts Minerva in Groningen, The Netherlands and graduated in 1998. "¨ She mainly works with a pinhole camera. Something which will be often seen as a prehistoric way of working. But by using this black box with only this tiny little hole in it, she tries to give her photographs another gateway to reality. That small hole has a complete different way of looking at the world then that our eyes do or the lens of our camera does. She tries to make pictures where the feeling of loneliness and emptiness dominates. A world in which expiring time is only visible. Her latest series is named Test of Time. The images in this series are made with an exposure time from 8 until 24 hours. The path that the sun describes in the sky and its reflection on the water becomes visible. The line is sometimes interrupted which means that it was cloudy at that moment. During the process I discovered that I am attracted by the cyclic movement of time and water as an important aspect of our human existence and as the most mysterious thing there is. Her photos are exhibited nationally and internationally. They were shown amongst others at Paris Photo, DFOTO Feria in San Sebastian, Spain, Art Rotterdam. Her work has been acquired for several collections including Artmuseum Linz in Austria and the Dutch Photomuseum Rotterdam in the Netherlands. In 2012 she was a finalist at at the International Photography Awards, one shot, the landscape. Last year she was nominated for the Francois Schneider Award in Wattwiller, France.
