For me, the sparse nature of these two lone trees atop Cape Kiwanda expresses both a sense of barren desolation as well as a strength and dignity in the landscape, while abstractly conveying visual tension between the soft tones of the sky and foreground with the energetic and expressive shapes of the trees.
