About The Artwork

"Sky Reflector-Net," the functional art installation that descends from the oculus of the dome of Fulton Center, in Lower Manhattan, was a collaboration between architects Grimshaw, engineering firm Arup, and James Carpenter Design. The installation uses hundreds of polished aluminum mirrors to draw light deep into the underground transit hub. The photograph simultaneously engages the subject in two diametrically opposed frameworks, vacillating between a study in pure formal abstraction and a documentation of the complex structures and ocular phenomena at work in the design.' This is from a limited edition of 30 prints, signed by the artist. Printed in Giclee process on Hahnemühle Torchon paper with aqueous ink. Torchon is an acid-free, all-organic, white archival paper with a slight texture. The pigment-based ink provides exceptional, museum-quality longevity and pairs with Torchon paper to deepen and enrich the blacks of monochrome photography. The photograph is printed with a border of approximately 2 inches, which serves to visually bound the photograph and to allow for framing that displays the entire artwork. It also foregrounds the subtle texture of the Torchon paper and serves as space for the artist’s signature and edition number. This border is included in the stated dimension of the photograph. The artwork may arrive up to three weeks after purchase; this allows the artist to ensure proper quality and protection. Please include a note if you have particular needs regarding timing.

It was his work as a photographer that originally led Jovius to train as an architect and, subsequently, as an historian of architecture. He is a professor of architectural history in the United States, and his academic travel and research allow him to maintain a practice in fine art photography with the world’s constructed landscapes as his primary subject. His artwork addresses the palimpsestic character of urban and structural form, the subtle uncanny in architecture and urban experience, and the entwined and unsteady relationship between our formulations of the natural and of the artificial. He has exhibited his work in both solo and group exhibitions in New York and elsewhere, and his photographs have been featured in hundreds of publications.
