Art Description

Printmaking: Charcoal, Pencil and Graphite on Paper.

I began this sketch or drawing by exploring quotes and writings about love. I read the author Eckhart Tolle and other Zen Buddhist quotes, which are always inspiring. However, ultimately Love is very simple and uncomplicated. Words and thoughts bring the complications and make love become something to define or explain. I think it is beyond all these things, and just part of us. We all have love within us, we just sometimes struggle to give it. So I rubbed out all the words, and just left figures connected, which is what we are. I enjoy doing these working drawings, which are both experimental as well as a means to clarify my thoughts. I let the drawing have a life of its own, so that it presents new ideas back to me. I'm interested in the concept of love being within us and when we fall in love, it is because we recognise and find our love in that person, being or object. In other words, true love is always only present within us and never provided by an external presence. It is always an awakening of the inherent love within us.
