In 2009, I revisited Mumbai, experience my first monsoon by the Arabian Sea in Mumbia. This is from that memory. I appropriated the architectural silhouette of these landmarks, and replicated the outline of the buildings in collagraph plates. Subsequently, I layer on monotype and relief prints. As the series has progressed, I have explored many more building, and I entered the conversation by documenting my recollections. I create hybrid forms by combining the silhouettes of buildings from Mumbai and New York. It reflects my merged heritage. Personal memory is an unwritten history that is not visible in the building’s structure; no inscription celebrates these events. But this work allows me to give personal experiences the commemoration I know they deserve.
