About The Artwork

The etching "Vodyanoy" / The collection of etchings "Spirits of Petersburg". Each artwork is original and unique, has a serial number and signature of artist. The collection of etchings has limited edition. The printing form is only used for 50 copies, after which it will be destroyed. Printmaking technique in detail on the website (link in the profile). In slavic mythology, Vodyanoy is a male water spirit. Vodyanoy has a fish's tail and look like as a naked old man whit beard. When angered, the vodyanoy breaks dams and drowns people and animals. He would drag down people to his underwater dwelling to serve him as slaves. Consequently, fishermen, sailors and peasants make a sacrifices or cheat to appease him.

Pisarev is a member of «Royal Society of Portrait Painters», «British Medal Art Society» and «Association of Illustrations» (United Kingdom), a member of the international exlibris association «Book Plate society» (London) and a member of the St. Petersburg Union of Artists (Russia). He illustrated several books for London publisher "Folio Society" and for publishing houses in Russia. One of the last artist works the illustration for book "The Hobbit". Included in the «GOD» catalog (Good Old Drawings 2012). In 1999 he was the winner of the Waterstones General British Book Illustration of the Year Award.
