This portrait of Quebec poet/politician Gerald Godin was done from his mugshot after being put in jail during the October crisis, in 1970, when the Canadian government upheld civil rights with its War Measures Act and arrested over 500 mostly left wing intellectuals and activists from Quebec. After a month in prison, Gerald Godin was never the same. He traded his role as a poet to become politician and won four consecutive elections before dying of brain cancer in 1994. The original painting, done in graphite and spray paint, was bought by College Gerald-Godin and greets visitors to the school in Sainte-Geneviève, Quebec.
