About The Artwork

Selected mid-career monotype. Nude Fire was done in my studio with a live model in front of a fiery curtain backdrop first as quick studies. The drawing was then painted using oil based printing inks onto plexiglass and transferred onto paper through the printing press. I wanted to catch the feeling of Annie Leibowitz's photograph of Patti Smith in front of four flaming oil barrels pictured on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine,1978 New Orleans. I had grown tired of formalism. I recalled a conversation I had with David Salle a some years earlier. Nude Fire is printed on Arches paper. It is matted in a light ivory mat board with board reinforcement (backside). This is the first and only edition of this print. Signed and dated on front and back in graphite. All materials certified archival.

"The Bengal light...the harlot of Montmartre, the doors of San Miguel de Allende...the tent of T.E. Lawrence...the illuminations of Erik Satie...Artaud's liquid burn...von Gloedens's camera...Warhol's polaroids...Cartier-Bresson's Decisive Moment...Colette Miller's spray painted Angel Wings...Sam Flores murals...Rimbaud's season in Hell...Marvel's Superheroes in your palm...Drake's breath in the air like fog...Chance the Rapper's coloring book...the National's high violet...the Shrine's purity ring...Efterklang's piramida is yours...and SUNN is a Holy Grail. Yesteryears and future ears, welcome to Golgotha. All and one and one for Magdalene. May you prosper on paper, pen in hand. May you rise to the canvas in rapture. May you lift your lens to what beholds you. May you flood the streets with your work, Knock on all doors, lift your veil and proceed with stealth and honor. Nothing is forbidden, freedom is your spouse. Lo, in a field of feathers the soul repositions a Chinese character of fortitude. Warm and sullen verve rises into the air turning to clay, ripe for your distant fingers. He who is busy not being born is busy dying. You who burn with ruby desires will penetrate, penetrate, penetrate the dormant heart." © A. R. Green 2001, revision © A. R. Green 2017
