About The Artwork

This print was made at the Appletree Etchers, Inc. studio in San Mateo, Ca in 1975 when I was master printer for the non profit atelier. The print was made from sketches made in Firenze when I was studying at the Accademia di Belle Arte, 1965. The etching is the market that was called the “Straw Market” by the students of the academy. It is now called the Mercato Nouvo. The bronze boar is the Fontana del Porcellino, originally cast in 1634 by Pietro Tacca. The original is in the Uffizi Gallery and was replaced by a copy. The guy in the etching was Sr. Alighiero Alighieri - as far as I could tell, not related to Dante (although he claimed to be a direct descendant). The print is on BFK white acid free paper with dark brown ink. The print is 7 x 4 5/8 inches with a wide border. It will be signed as an artists proof, when purchased.
