ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Plate size: 11,6" x 9,6" (29,5 x 24,5 cm) Paper size: 16" x 11,9" (40,5 x 30,3 cm) August 2011 Signed and numbered (1/1) on the front Original hand pulled chine collé with ballpoint pen This piece is unique and unrepeatable. You will receive a signed Certificate of Authenticity. All materials meet archival standards for printmaking. I only use high-quality, heavy-weight archival paper. Chine collé Chine collé is a special technique in printmaking in which the image is transferred to a surface that is bonded to a heavier support in the printing process. The purpose is to provide a background color behind the image that is different from the surrounding backing sheet. Each print is unique.

"Edgar Degas said that "Drawing is the artist's most direct and spontaneous expression, a species of writing: it reveals, better than does painting, his true personality." Degas is one of the artist's that has influenced Berlin-based Ute Rathmann, whose stunning drawings of the human form are in many international collections. Inspired by old masters such as Klimt, Schiele, Toulouse-Lautrec and Goya, this graduate of the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee works from life models, dressing her subjects according to a particular theme, in order to explore the human body and how it relates to clothes, costume, fashion and fabric."
