Sarah Gwyer was born in Gloucestershire in 1985 and now lives and works in the Cotswolds. She describes her practice as ‘Contemporary Pop’, drawing together influences from pop artists Andy Warhol and James Rosenquist through to contemporary artists Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst. After studying Fine Art in Cardiff, Gwyer headed straight to London to study a Masters in Printmaking at the University of the Arts, London. By the time of her graduate show she was exhibiting simultaneously in London and New York. Working across textiles, sculpture and print Gwyer's work reflects on the themes of celebrity, consumerism and commercialism, using well known faces and pop imagery. She loves to merge the boundaries between art and craft practices, pushing traditional ways of working to new levels and audiences.
