About The Artwork

The tree here resembles the brain as it is divided to the right and the left side of the brain. At the front bottom left the scholar is seated on a chair at a table hidden in his or her deep world of meditation. The mediation is twofold. One aspect of the mediation is the thought about the universe, the outside world, the strong elements of the weather and the world which are reflected in the skies and ocean. The other aspect of the meditation is internal, it is about the brain, or the state of the person thinking, the gaze and the direction of it's contemplative power are turned inward. The world outside there, at the shore, where ocean meets land, is made of sky, ocean, the bathtub which is a mini or embryonic type of an ocean, and a bunch of fish traveling from the ocean into the land to face the viewer. Each fish is a spirit and it has a character resembled in the face. I love drawing and etching these fish, these characters, here I made them very dark blue. The whole composition resembles the infinitely rich world of meditation, inward and outward. This is a five plates etching and aquatint work. In other words these are five surfaces of lines and pigments registered one upon another to create a rich fabric of tones, colors and shapes.

I am Fine Art Printmaker and Painter based in Kildare and Dublin. I am an Award winning printmaker, member of Graphic Studio Dublin. My later compositions, done as multi-plates etchings where the ocean, as the big home of the primordial life of the self, can be replaced by the bathtub, as the small home, when the self is in the mood of minimisation. Each work in fact is a ‘simple’, nature or landscape based composition, aiming to be a balanced and a pleasant visual creation, with a lot of energy in the pigments and the tones. In the same time, upon a prolonged observation, my work aims to unveil and communicate something of a metaphysical nature, an essence or a power that exists at the ebb of life, as principles, dealing with the question of the nature of our existence.
