Art Description

Printmaking: Etching, Aquatint, Oil-based ink, Rives BFK paper, Intaglio on Glass, Paper, Wood, Other.

The work was hand printed and published by the artist at The Center for Works on Paper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Please note that this etching is shipped to the collector without a frame or mat. This keeps the price low and gives the collector a wide range of choices in the framing process. A sturdy cardboard box is employed for shipping the work. The etching is first wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping carton and securely packed with bubble wrap. The SAATCHI price includes all handling costs, shipment supplies, and regular, domestic (US) mailing costs to the collector. This multiple-plate etching takes its inspiration from a photo in The US Library of Congress (Print and Picture Department, Washington, DC – The Panoramic Photograph Collection); the actual Gelatin Silverprint (taken in 1909 by Moffett Studios) depicts The Leaning Tower, Baptisty, and Cathedral in Pisa, Italy. My work uses the etching techniques of intaglio, drypoint, and aquatint and is executed in an unique two-color ink (oil-based, Charbonnel Brand) process on Rives BFK white paper (both manufactured in France). The image is etched on six individual zinc plates that each measure three inches high (7.6 cm) by two inches wide (5 cm). The print size is 22” long x 7.5” high (65 cm by 20 cm).
