About The Artwork
Seen every day across the parking lot. Pushed form realism into abstraction. In this series, I work primarily with the built landscape in etchings, lithographs, and mixed media paintings, all deeply textured and heavily worked. I seek out my subjects from the world around me, though my images do not necessarily resemble the places that sparked their creation. While I always work from a referent, an actual place or location, I allow exaggeration, memory, and imagination to inform each image. The human landscape minus human presence. Disquiet in the familiar. Fake mezzotint: a softground texture of tarlatan in several layers, with lots of scraping and burnishing. Zinc plate printed in handmade ink on Rives BFK.
