Art has the ability to tell stories and reflect eternal truths that can, through the use of metaphor and allegory, bring the viewer insight and understanding. This body of work is Marylyn's exploration into the validity of this idea. Marylyn has been working as a printmaker, an ideal medium in which to express her interpretations of visual and literal narrative. Her art is affected by political interests, the need to convey her ideas in visual terms, and by the experience of working in broadcast journalism. She feels the need to express her disturbance and discomfort at the current state of the world in a symbolic way. The Apocalyptic nature of these times has been expressed in previous works through her screen-print series on that subject. These ideas are also explored in later works, "˜Anarchy in the UK'. There has been a new development in her latest screen-prints, "˜Faith', "˜Hope' and "˜Love' (Charity). Using photographs of flowers in her garden Marylyn reflected on the feelings and metaphorical meanings she experienced through looking at them. She then developed images by exploring techniques new to her on Photoshop. Marylyn is interested in the development of narrative in the creation of her art, and in the use of metaphor and allegory. Paula Regos mythic images impressed. Nancy Speros sparse, seemingly erratic use of modern and ancient icons became something she aspired to. As a fan of Rauschenberg she started to use the layering of images. Both Banksy and Andy Warhol inspire for their simplification of image. Marylyn feels the need to create her interpretation of eternal truths, there is a need to understand these on a deep psychological level, in order to develop images that the viewer can recognize and relate to the world we live in and maybe gain some new insight.
