“Above & Below” is from the new "Natural Series" Collection. A hand crafted, one-of-a-kind sculptural series By Anna M. White “Above & Below” is part of the ever expanding idea of White’s “Natural Series”. In this piece she created one sweeping cut from the middle of the vessel terminating at the top where the cut creates a spiral of clay. In this sculptural work, White chose to make vivid blue vines that cling to the piece and hang down from the openings created by the cut. In addition to the delicate vines on the exterior, White also added a unexpected touch; white clay that creates an interior root system at the bottom of the vessel. Anna M. White's "Natural Series" challenges our daily interaction with clay by creating new sculptural forms from those we recognize. White makes her own clay in order to sculpt it, challenging the clay with an original technique that gives her the ability to construct the clay in ways that have never been done before. Because of this, White is able to create details that pull the viewer in closer to these sculptural vessels. This work is shipped with a certificate of authenticity verifying it is a one-of-a-kind piece. Full series also available at: https://www.feldspargallery.com/ Oxidation slow fire to 2280 F with an end hold. Hand-altered, wheel-thrown form with individually extruded details using the different clay bodies developed. Crystal-clear glaze developed specifically for the work, allowing the color to emanate directly from the clay.

Always seeking to explore the physical limits of clay, I experiment with malleability, cutting, and re-positioning pieces of the vessel, combined with details attaching, spanning, and weaving across the form. Ever inspired by nature, I want to create innovative work in a medium that constantly draws me. I am currently the founder and owner of Feldspar Studio & Gallery, a fine art gallery that represents talented artists in a variety of mediums. Building out the space allowed me to design a gallery with a gray palette and custom live-edge pedestals that would not only enhance the artwork, but break with the traditional “white cube”. Feldspar is an artist-focused gallery, where the artists are valued for their attention to detail and passion for their medium. Not only did this new studio and gallery space allow me the opportunity to represent other artists but it allows me to continue developing my own unique techniques with clay, while building on my “Stitched” and “Natural” Series.
