On the wood forms: If you are new to my work, welcome to the abstract world of the wood forms. I strive to find dynamic and strong expressions of life's puzzles, ironies and the human condition. In our journey together as a species we travel across the landscape of experience, riding up and down over the bumps and hills and winding streets and rivers. Underlying this all is an unmovable presence, a field of stillness and peace which never wavers. This is the life force which we share with other forms on the planet and it is this which I bring into my sculptures through metaphor, dancing intimately and intrinsically with the physical material — the space and emptiness surrounding the form, without which the form could not exist. On the concept: I took a more structural approach with this form focusing on lines and connections between components looking for a dynamic solution to the freestanding object. From one angle the suspended leg provides a sense of movement but from another angle it seems to be surrendering to our human nature. The concave system carves though the convex system as if weathered over time. On the form and material: Thinking about interior spaces, I want to create forms which instill beauty, serenity, vitality and visual interest in the chosen space. This form is quite dynamic with its winding edges and smooth curving surfaces. It takes the eye for a visual journey. From different angles, the sculpture gives off different vibes. The richness of the waxed Peruvian Walnut coupled with the light-reflecting surface delivers a sense of intrigue and depth.
