This series “Hookers, Lookers and Celebrity Suckers”, began with my travels around South Africa’s Cape.
A friend facilitated an opportunity for me to observe the sex workers and their associates.
Each figure is a character I studied during that time. The resulting sculptures are an ongoing series that began during the mid-1990’s.
I create each scupture myself, from Herculite and then ‘dress’, using mosaic ostrich eggshell (found in the Karroo desert) and mirror, paint, treated rolled lead, gems and found object. All this creates an encrusted patina with an individuality, that forms the character of each piece.
This is an on-going series, now focusing on the celebrities in life.

( NB " African Queen " was completed in 2012, beginning many years earlier)

"African Queen" measures ---- 47 inches /119 centimetres tall x 21 inches / 53 centimetres wide x 12 inches / 30.5 centimetres deep

UK The inspiration for my art comes from dreams, myths, travels and intuition. My works are mainly figurative and my root influences are what I experience, (the pain and pleasure of life). I believe that creativity is a pathway to the soul, it both expresses and illuminates.
