About The Artwork

Relief portrait with a wooden frame // ‘Yana’ in the title means vehicle, just like the human body! We move in space-time with a body-vehicle to the same destination, most human beings fear and/or resist, along the way making or breaking realities. A vehicle that is bound to spacetime & incapable of existence outside of it. A vehicle that communicates in subtle and not so subtle ways. Do you listen ? Can you hear it? A vehicle that is in service to our essence but is not the essence. A vehicle capable of dreaming(!)- a built-in mechanism for temporary escape of the boundless essence, for the duration of its earthly mission. Good thing we are not totally stuck as it may feel at times. & Luckily, it all begins with a dream. Framed ceramic relief sculpture with metallic patina finish // Sculpted & fired in 2012 // Patina finish applied in 2020 // In private collection, Hudson Valley, NY

Babayeva holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies from Azerbaijan University of Languages. She has been sculpting since 2012, and began focusing on her sculptor identity during the pandemic, which led to Babayeva’s debut solo exhibition of sculpture R e v i v a l at the Arts Society of Kingston in June 2021. Her sculptures have been shown in group and juried exhibitions locally + virtually, and have been acquired for private collections. Babayeva’s love for figurative art propels her mission to make figurative sculpture visible and adequately represented in local galleries & art venues by inspiring a new interest in figurative sculpting and making it accessible to the art community & public, while pursuing its inclusion and advancement in educational art organizations. Recently, Babayeva has been awarded 2022 NYSCA Individual Artist Grant to cultivate figurative sculpture locally, within the Hudson Valley.
