Inspired by other types of Pop Art, and by my love of recycling/re-using materials. I like the 'fun' aspect of Pop Art and Dada, where objects that some perceive as junk get presented as art. I trust that the work encourages contemplation from viewers - responses could be influenced by the quietness that emanates from the work, or could involve trying to read meaning from the letters and other graphic symbols within it. The work might encourage viewers to appreciate 'the aesthetics of the ordinary'. The materials making up the work were each found at different times and places in and around the city in which I live. They sat in my studio for months before I experimented with different compositions/arrangements of the pieces, then decided on the final one. The assembled materials are all securely attached to a wooden supporting frame. I like the idea of sculpture presented as a painting (e.g. to be hung on a wall) because it is a reminder of the spatial ambiguity that surrounds us most of the time.
