About The Artwork
This sculptural, ornamental ceramic vessel is inspired by marine based biomorphic forms, such as sea urchin shells, seahorse armour, sponges and coral and also owes a nod to the fascinating and beautiful biological artworks of the C19th naturalist Earnst Haeckel. This fusion of natural structures and shapes is given a sense of order and symmetry by an overall classical form, giving it a silhouette reminiscent of more traditional vessels. The mottled opalescent white and grey glazed finish is paired with silver leaf gilding to given a sumptuous harmony to the overall appearance.
