About The Artwork
A three-dimensional woven tapestry sculpture inspired by a line from a Psalm ("intricately woven together in the depths of the earth") in conjunction with a found amethyst geode fragment. I weave tapestries with the aim of ‘escaping the tyranny of the rectangle and taking tapestry off the wall’. This piece was woven flat on a loom after experiments and planning with a paper maquette. Once cut off the loom, the shape is formed by manipulating the warps to close gaps in the weaving.
