In-Cubo (in Italian also nightmare Sculpture

In 2006 my artwork "I Cori dell'Anima" won the first place in the National Art Prize Città di Novara. After that I kept working on my sculptures for one year and a half, focusing on the same theme. I created dozens of "Cantors" and nothing else. I felt very frustrated, discouraged and depressed because of my inability to evoke the creative force I needed to expand my artistic views. Then, on a gloomy winter day in 2008, while I was in my studio, taken by the most total anguish that can be imagined, through a thick curtain of tears, in a sudden rage I took a lump of terracotta and began to smash on it some small terracotta faces that I had on my desk. This was the birth of my work “In-Cubo” ("In-Cube" and in Italian also nightmare). The cube represents all our constraints and limitations, both physical and mental and "In-Cubo" depicts the fatigue and pain we experience every time we try to go beyond our limits and break free from the frames we are held in. The cube is dark and the faces are illuminated, emerging from darkness to light. In 2017, "In-Cubo" received an award by the National Art Prize Città di Novara – the second time I won the prize from where it all began.
