About The Artwork
The sculpture, ‘Know Thy Swan’, is a rosa pink recycled resin, floating or suspended with fishing wire, in collected branches off the forest floor. The work can be purchased without the branches, which are to be placed together with fishing wire to suspend from the ceiling. The work emerged from collaborative work with the mathematician, Barry Hughes from Melbourne University. The idea behind the work comes from ‘know thyself’, with the idea that when someone sits in meditation, the swan is just gently wavering on the water of the mind. It is dynamic and yet light, it reminds me of my experience in earlier times in masterclass with Zaha Hadid in Vienna, where I was influenced by the many 3d modelling techniques we learnt. It is in many ways an impossible sculpture, which I had to intricately balance from its produced NURBS (non-uniform-rational-b-spline) surfaces.

My artistic work holds a reverence for nature and sublime force. Sculpture, 3d prints and still life, captured in artistic photography, "scores of operatic voices dancing on the lens...." My images and sculptures explore, often through still-life gesture, the phrasing of a moment, observing beauty and fragility in nature over time. My sculptures and still-life photography are like musical compositions to me, and they often serve to inspire a complex form which I use to compose. These artistic works become part of my compositional ouevre, and from them I have composed chamber operas, pieces for piano, chamber works and songs. But they are also artistic objects in their own right.
