Dear Friends, My name is David Moješčík and I am an artist – a sculptor. I was born on July 25, 1974, in Frýdek - Místek in the Czech Republic. I graduated in the Atelier of Sculpture led by Professor Michal Gabriel, academic sculptor, at the Faculty of Fine Arts BUT (Brno University of Technology). I also obtained my first experience with plastic materials there, above all with polyester which became the main matter for the realization of my later personal projects. In the next years, I started to work as a freelance artist and I have been making that for living since that time on. In past, I was, together with other artists, often involved in works of my former professor, academic sculptor Michal Gabriel – I for example have the chance to work with Jiří Surůvka (Ostrava), Lukáš Rittstein (Prague) and Bára Šlapetová (Prague). In the last few years I have been involved in the co-operation on many projects related to public space – together with Michal Šmeral. In the period 2004-2005, I worked as a teacher and a deputy headmaster at SUS in Ostrava (High School of Fine Arts). In 2007, I realized a creative stay in Ballinskelligs, Ireland, which was a part of The Cill Rialaig Project. Since then, I have been working as an external pedagogue with a part-time duty at a private art school in Ostrava. In my projects, I am mostly interested in figurative sculpture. Regarding the material, I take advantage of the special characteristics of plastics that enable me to shape the sculptures in many different stances, poses and positions. The central point of my works is related to human body, predominantly to female figures. I find inspiration all around the world, e.g. in yoga philosophy, Egyptian and Ancient cultures, i.e. sculptures of European Classicism, etc. The art of 19th century and symbolism are fascinating for me as an artist. These are actually the sources of my great interest in smooth, enchased and glossy form. I partly touch the art of realism in my sculptures but it is not about hyper-realism itself – I only use the realistic form as a medium to convey the message. The yoga philosophy is of great inspiration for me, too – teaching of non-violent actions and its focus on human himself. The time-consuming creation of the sculptures is tightly related to the precise work on them, it is hand in hand with the financial site of the realization of the individual projects.
