Nine is a process piece. It is a duplication sculpture. The main panel was designed with incremental changes in scale from bottom to top with subtle shifts in scale from one protrusion to next. The protrusions are smaller at the base and grow larger as the piece "grows". A duplication of the main panel is created and cut in half ... from top to bottom. The two pieces are glued on opposite sides of the main panel, creating a continuum of the forms as the viewer moves around the sculpture. All of my sculptures are made out of wood (Cedar). They are intended to be placed in an interior environment only. My sculptures are photographed both inside & outside. The interior shots (White background) are intended to give the viewer a sense of what my work would look like in an interior setting. The exterior shots were important to give the viewer a more accurate sense of color and texture, and perfectly balanced natural light without unflattering shadows. I have always had an affinity for creating with wood. Over the years I've restored 10 properties. Several were historic. One is listed on the National Registry of Historic Structures. I've also built wooden boats. My career was dedicated to teaching studio art at three different colleges over a period of 44 years. I've exhibited in NYC, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Florence Italy, Liverpool England, and numerous museums and galleries throughout the US. Creating challenging provocative work has been a life long goal. I consider myself a process artist. My that I mean... I enjoy all aspects making the work. After that I basically leave it in the hands of the gods.• All of my sculptures are made out of wood (Cedar). They are intended to be placed in an interior environment only. It is painted with a steel impregnated paint that, once subject to several chemical applications... it looks like rusted steel. Planting flower bulbs in our ever-needy grade inspired this particular sculpture. Nine includes a removable base. The bottom 18” of the sculpture easily slides into the slotted base. The base is shipped seperately.
