About The Artwork
Not a Toy is a juxtapositional reflection on the tension that exists between responsibility and inaction. It is made from found and selected objects - primarily a 1970's tin educational globe and the mechanism from an old spinning top. Originally a 3D stand-alone piece, it has since been filmed in slow motion for inclusion in an immersive audio-visual work entitled Proof of Work, where the footage is projected onto a reformed arctic ice sheet that is supported in a state of balance by a length of industrial chain... and more recently became the source-image for a sequence-series of digital crypto-collectibles created by activist and NFT subversive broken_fiat on the Blockchain Art Exchange.
