This sculpture was part of a tripodal investigation. How the connecting contours will flow around the 3 points of contact with the ground. The contours of the hole were drawn in harmony with the outer contours of that part of the sculpture and the sculpture as a whole. I think the hole gives a transparent, transcending feeling to the piece. It fits well with the smoothness of the sculpture which is carved into hinoki wood with a beeswax finish. The concept of "opportunity" to me implies a transience and mysteriousness of life which I sought to express in this piece. I hope it raises the topics of "movement of time" and "harmony of parts and whole". There is a character to the piece which unifies it and at the same time gives it a serene yet wondering presence.
