ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Hand-painted wooden cube “Dancing with the Wolves”, a multidimensional sculpture. Originally has been created for a collective show curated by Tucson, US-based Baker + Hesseldenz Studio. Invited artists have been sent a plain wooden cube to be customized especially for this collective exhibition. This multidimensional object can be observed from all six sides and from many different angles, every single angle shows a continuous vibrant flow of the drawing/painting that is forming different compositions depending on the viewers’ perspective. “Dancing with the Wolves” is dealing with a ritual, dance, movement, and flow. Eternal play between good and bad, man (wolf) and woman, between light and darkness, between love and temptation. I had an intention to create this perpetual never-ending organic story that’s flowing on all sides of the cube, old as its humanity itself, evoking certain archetypes presented in a very contemporary context.

Valentina Brostean was born in Novi Sad, Serbia. After spending over a decade in Turin (Italy, from 2011 until 2021.) she is now residing in Barcelona (Spain). Brostean holds a BFA in Graphic Design and an MFA in Illustration from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Novi Sad. Brostean is a multi-disciplinary visual artist with over 15 years of experience in the creative world- working both with traditional and digital mediums. Her bold eclectic style, often described as “new contemporary figuration” is specific for its use of courageous, unexpected compositions and unique, striking imagery. In her personal work, she has been strongly interested in exploring different aspects of human nature – subconscious, emotional states, dreams, as well as social relations and conditions between humans. Brostean is a master at deconstructing the obvious reality in order to reconstruct it again– the result of a perpetual journey, a constant search for identity, and the complexity of meanings. When it comes to the field of applied art, Brostean has specialized in editorial and fashion illustration, experimenting often with collage, using both traditional and digital tools as well. Her work has been published in numerous books, magazines, and publications around the world. Since 2006 she has exhibited her work in a variety of exhibitions, ranging from personal to group shows throughout Europe (Italy, Germany, Portugal, Spain, and the UK) as well as in the Middle East and the United States. Brostean is represented by Illozoo creative agency. Currently, she works as an independent artist focusing on her personal self-expression through the creative process and collaborating with worldwide talents, illustration and design agencies, diverse companies, galleries, and collectors on various art projects which allow her to apply her eclectic creativity.
