I created a platform for the ideal. the ideal as in plato's ideal, where art is but the copy of the copy oof the ideal. As curtains or veils around the platform, the ideal should have some privacy are in a double layer pieces of transparant organza hanging round in two squares symmetricly organised with the face of the venus of botticelli simplified as one more copy, on it. In the floor I made a linocut printed on als organza cloth. It is put there in four layers with the words idea.. ideal... and they see through but are one image so it gets kind of vague with nonclear edges because of the transparant layers. The round is also a little above the ground, so light gets in from underneath.

I started working around the ‘Light’ theme in 2010 when I was doing a Masters in Art Education In Amsterdam. Working together in a project involving overheadprojectors and film we put a lightbulp underneath the light of the overheadprojector together with a shape that looked almost like an angel. When during the art-filosofy course Plato, who had labelled art into mimesis ( in which art is a simulation or copy of real life which in itself is a copy of the highest; The World of Idea, the divine) was discussed, a connection was made and the idea of the flying light was born……. Light as a concept in its own right. Light which is light, and not…. Light which is not heavy, and not…Light not taking it to heavy, not seriously and not… Light as a lightbulp that tries to copy the ‘big and pure and divine light from which everything has sprung’. On top of that it wants to be and do right…. to illuminate. A lightbulp that gives light, isn’t light , generates light but can’t fly. Projecting human aspects to non living things interests me. Developing empathy on an artificial basis. These layres of Idea, Humanity and Artificiality return in every piece here shown Words are abstractions that behold the center between idea and reality. They create images in which truth or realness have no discussion of value, but exist in the ‘rightness’ of wrapping thought around the given issue. To use words visually triggers the train of thought for me into making different or new contexts.
