Graduated From De Montfort University Leicester, England in 2012,BA Fine Art Honours Degree, Exploring mixed media, Sculpture, Print, Collage, Artist Statement 2012. The main focus of the work is the environment; the found materials are a reflection of the life in that environment. Investigating these materials through collage, painting, photography, Relief, and 3D. This current body of work uses both found and purchased materials; shiny, printed and holographic paper, card, off cuts from a wood workshop, Paper Mache, acrylic paint, glitter, glue, and varnish. Initially investigating the materials by cutting up and layering; a process that reoccurs in my work, exploring the tiers of my immediate location: the unconscious rhythmic and percussive elements seem to suggestion an untold narrative, a story, a song, an ocular translation of the frequencies that surround us every day. Initially using appropriated, collected and sometimes found materials has proven to have its limitations and has led me to purchase certain types of reflective textured and transparent materials as they are in short supply. Using material from the environment is an important component of the work it is a link to a comment on society and how we live acting as a kind of archaeology. Layering the material simulates what happens naturally in the environment the build-up of the surface; sometimes allowing the layer below to be visible, each layer capturing the stuff of life between it. The craft like element to the work lends itself to the materials and the mishmash of shapes within the urban landscape, a patchwork of positive and negative spaces. Aiding the translation; by the sparing use of colour. Artist Statement 2011. Ellen Kemad's use of appropriated, collected and sometimes found detritus is an echo of the "˜make do' world of which she is familiar with, sometimes referred to as a bit of a collector and a hoarder. Kemad investigates the characteristic, possibilities and limitations of her chosen materials though collage and painting; experimenting with Photography, scale, relief and 3D. Suggesting narrative, a contrast of whimsical notions streaked with misgivings, expression, reflecting intangible memories, consideration of nostalgia dappled with ambiguity. The main focus of the work investigates the effects and relationship the landscape and environment have on man, and man on the landscape and environment.
