About The Artwork
This detail is from a sculpture which I made over several years, it kept nagging me so I'd get it out of the corner and do a bit more, and then I'd get stuck and it would get put away again... It took me a long time to understand what it was about too. Effectively it is a visual representation of an emotional state: that of creating an illusionary sense of safety, in this case in three ways: the house has no door, so no one can enter the house, no one can leave the house, and the flowers give a false sense of "everything's fine and dandy and rosy and lovely": a false sense of safety: a front. The sculpture is made from cardboard, papier mache and painted with acrylic paint.
