This wood form is from the "Symbiosis" concept line. I call these abstract forms visual poems. The elements of curve, line, mass, contour, proximity, neg./pos. space are the words of the poem. This wood is a local species from the west coast of Canada. The sculpture is finished smooth and is soft to the touch. It is a tripod sculpture standing on 3 feet. I carve the different parts so that they interact visually with the other parts. I pay close attention to the details of the form in order to achieve delicately subtle relationships. People often comment on these sculptures with what it reminds them of, whether it be a mammal or a fruit. I take lines and curves from the environment and use them to create a whole form made up of parts which are engaged in some sort of energetic interplay of space.
