About The Artwork
As an artist, I am inspired by imperfect beauty, ancient artifacts and the vessel as a common human object. This piece was wheel thrown, altered and assembled to create the clay structure. Exterior is designed with magnesium carbonate glaze over black underglaze on stoneware. Interior is glazed with a patent leather glossy black. Multi-fired in oxidation in an electric kiln.

I am exploring thae idea of halted energy like a photo of a controlled demolition or a dance paused in motion. My work is very physical and tactile and comes about through a series of actions. I use the potter’s wheels as a tool to create deep textures. I then dissect and reassemble these textures to build complex forms. Aesthetically, I am drawn to ancient artifacts, the imperfect beauty of Japanese ceramics forms and North African jewelry surfaces. In all of these things, there is a humble, handmade charisma that inspires my work.
