About The Artwork

The Sukkub appears as being desirable, but not terrible. Perhaps the most interesting of these stories is the legend told by Walter Mapesa in "De Nugis Curialium" (about 1185) of Pope Sylvester II (C. 950 — may 12, 1003). According to this legend, the future Pope once met a girl of amazing beauty by the name of the Meridian, which promised the young man riches and help if he would agree to be with her. The young man agreed. Every night he spent with a mysterious lover, while his career took off: he was Archbishop of Rheims, cardinal, Archbishop of Ravenna, and finally Pope.
