THE KITE Sculpture

LB is the pseudonym of Laurent Barbier - a 50 years old French artist. A happy childhood in the French Provence, education in literature and fine arts, a work in the cinema, passion for writing and expression in its broad sense, where art is to create with your heart for the others. Life takes him to Bulgaria. There he becomes connected to a kind of spirituality, with something that says, «Light is not here by chance». Nature does the rest: Shows, lights, mountains and forests, an image of greatness, Wisdom and power. And by observing this same nature closely, in its tiniest forms - mineral and plant, one can see there is something like a mirror of splendid grandeur. LB' s sculptures are made of the collection of various pebbles and pieces of dead wood, the whole of them sculpted by time and life of soil. The pebbles are collected from here and there with no distinction between them. They are often modest, but in the way they are laid before our eyes, each reveals a unique character, unique structure and bright messages such as: «My beauty is revealed in your eyes»... «I am important and still banal»…. «If you can see me - a stone among stones, then see the beauty of the world and the beings»... Sometimes powerful stones are placed in the sculpture. Stones kings who attract attention. Their beauty speaks of them, it strengthens the shape and meaning of sculptures. The tree is glued to the stone as if a bond gets them together. Sometimes harmonious, sometimes cruder. This wood / stone bond should give the sculpture an impulse, give it a motion, a life, something that elevates simple matter to other forms, beings, stories, a sense of magic. Because the purpose of these works is to make evident the dominance of the spirit over the real world. This is the wonderful as a vision, where there are no more barriers between Man and Nature. And this aspect of a miracle is placed by adding of the brush. Very metalized, shining, in sequins, wood is turned into an unreal dress, fire or an angel’s wing. These forms and matters, which have become extraordinary, stir up our imagination. We can see how fantastic beings, motion in space, mystical thoughts, symbols of faith are being formed. A spirituality has to populate the works so that our thoughts and beliefs can break off the material burden.
