About The Artwork

A Symbol of Freedom and Truth. The Book and the Gun, a metaphor for Knowledge and Power. A collaborative work of Underground Filmmaker Tzang Merwyn Tong and Sculptor Chua Boon Kee. “The Faeryville Statue” is the iconic monument of the award winning film "Faeryville". Also known as "The Mother Saint", the sculpture represents the irony of ideology and those who wield the power to enforce it. In the film, bombs were eventually set to the Statue. It was blown up, and toppled by a band of revolutionaries. This is not a replica. This is one of two sculptures constructed for the film. The other one was destroyed in an explosion. This "Faeryville Statue" is the only surviving edition of Tzang Merwyn Tong and Chua Boon Kee's collaboration. "The Faeryville Statue" represents resistance in the face of adversary, and the true power of freedom and truth.
