About The Artwork

A song of the great fusion drummer Billy Cobham is entitled "The wind and the sea". More than the song this title inspired me to make a sculpture, which represents with very simple forms the two elements. A bulged square sail carved out of a piece of applewood stands for the sea. Mother-of-pearl inlays in forms reminding of waves shine in blue and green upon the sail. I always had the japanese "haiku" lyrics in mind, those poems of three lines, which tend to capture the whole universe in a few words. The sculpture is mounted on a base of yellow-white marble. A detailed description of the "making of..." you´ll find in the blog on my website www.artrani.de
