Wall Carving #13 Sculpture

If one were to stare in soft focus as light dapples through the trees, I am sure we would smell the warmth of summer and feel the breeze dancing around our fingers. The Wall Carving series seeks to emulate natural patterns found throughout nature: sunflower seeds, basalt rock formations humans in mass transit. Inside the repetitious marks being made, the maker seeks to work in collaboration with the natural forms found in wood, thus accentuating an interplay between the natural grain, fibres and features alongside the artist-made marks. A conscious decision was made to keep the finish of materials close to their natural state - without painting or colouring - only ever using natural and locally-made beeswax or linseed oil. Instead of using colour to ‘decorate,’ light and it’s shadows are extensively employed to build texture upon texture whether the light emanates from within or creates an external impetus. As with many other examples of Adam’s work, he seeks to build a haptic response by suggesting that the viewers are able to touch the pieces to be able glean further understanding of the marks that have been made
