Inspired by the land and sea that surrounds me here in Ireland, I created this sculpture in November, influenced by our cold Irish winter sky. Sometimes at that time of year subtle hues of yellow and green can mingle through the grey clouds and I wanted to capture that. This sculpture is double sided and the disk can be lifted out of its stone base for easy transport. My method of painting with resin involves creating layers upon layers of resin mixed with other inks, pastes and paints. Some parts of each layer are transparent and some parts are opaque. This means my work ends up showing great depth and movement. I would like the audience to feel as if they are moving through the landscape as they view my work. This sculpture is a double sided painting (disc) set into an Alabaster stone base. The disc element is highly glossy while the stone retains it's natural finish on top and slightly polished on the sides. My signature is carved into the side/rim of the disc.

Jenny mc Connell was born and raised in the Irish countryside of County Donegal. Jenny made the move to Belfast after finishing school to complete a degree in fine & applied art at the University of Ulster. After graduating in 2012 she moved to Dublin to continue her art practice, where she lived and worked until 2014 when she emigrated to Australia for one year. It was not until Jenny’s time in Australia that she began to fully appreciate and value the rugged beauty of her native landscape. This realisation has greatly influenced her transition from her earlier figurative work into abstract landscapism. Jenny has exhibited on a number of occasions since graduating, notably in the Royal Hibernian Academy, the Royal Ulster Academy, and also the Glebe Gallery’s open exhibition, where one of her pieces won the Glebe Gallery prize. She works with resin, ink, paint - and her work is characterised by great movement and depth. Jenny wants her audience to feel as if they are moving through the landscape as they view her work. "Since I have returned to Ireland, I feel very fortunate to live and work overlooking the Irish Sea. I draw inspiration from the colours, the textures and the forms of the landscape that surrounds me. I love to experiment with many different techniques and use various materials to achieve the effect I’m pursuing on that particular day."
