Caracas, Venezuela 1970 Artist Stament: My work is about the nature of learning and teaching through art, and particularly about the methods I need to use to acquire new knowledge. Materials such as bitumen, crude oil, glass, eraser clay, photographs, among others, are crucial to my work and the ideas that drive it. I manipulate these materials to create works based on clear ideas. Usually, I use strategies of deconstruction and subtraction to open up the subject matter and then use the materials to bestow those qualities that express most clearly the meaning of the work so it is understood at a non-rational level. Basically, I play. I connect many variables in what it seems to me as a nonlinear method and in this Play I get to fix new knowledge. I “do” and then I “Undo” . I have been greatly influenced by Raushcembarg and his Erased De Kooning as what I consider one of the most radical acts of art of the 20th century. His gesture, has opened up a method for me to analyze subject matter... as japer Johns coined: by " additive subtraction"
