About The Artwork
Embroidered collage with hand woven fabric, over paper copy of a photograph. The photo, taken in 1909 by Corbit Studios, shows the Arcade Mall in Bridgeport, CT. There was a Singer sewing machine store, a barber, a dentist and many more businesses. Today, my art & weaving studio is located on the second floor of this mall, and my girlfriend’s studio is a screen printing/art studio

Ruben Marroquin, (American Born, Venezuelan/Guatemalan) 1979, Visual artist, textile designer and weaving instructor. Ruben studied for two years at the Armando Reveron University Institute in Caracas, Venezuela, specializing in painting. Marroquin received a B.F.A. in Textile and Surface Design during which time he attended a semester at the École Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle (ENSCI, les Ateliers) in Paris, concentrating on weaving, through a student exchange program. Ruben's work participated in the Rijswijk's Museum's Textile Biennial 2015 and has collaborated with the Metropolitan Museum of Art in educational programs related to weaving and the fiber arts. Ruben lives and works in Brooklyn, NY
