About The Artwork

This thickly- poured resin piece encapsulates multiple images of the same plant in order to create a new vision of a simple garden plant. The high contrast negative space and earth tones create a new vision for the plant while multiple sliced and reassembled pieces create a plant that doesn't exist. The strangeness of the color evokes the world of insect vision and the "alien" quality of a simple garden. What's really there? The simple question "What is real" is the point.

Raised in sunny Southern California, William Lennertz spent his early years in Huntington Beach, CA soaking up sun, sea water, comics, music, and literature. Originally, his creativity steered him to fiction and poetry. He studied writing at California State University, Long Beach and George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. Eventually, he found solace from words in visual art. His work focuses on the interactions of media and content. He interlaces painting with a variety of inks, resins, and collage. His work reflects a 20th century upbringing and a 21st century aesthetic where multiple layers and points of view coexist. It also evokes the serenity and spirituality of abstract expressionism as well as the fleeting world represented by the 21st century's constant stream of incomplete or excessive information.
