About The Artwork

Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, in particular the Central and South regions, and by people of Mexican heritage elsewhere.  It is a popular holiday in Southern Arizona where I live.  The multi-day holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and support their spiritual journey. I have created several pieces to commemorate a variety of people; this time a musician. The heavy-weight paper I used to draw his skeleton has a pearlescent finish; after making it I dressed the figure with cut-out slacks, a custom made hat, and an origami shirt of my own design. Lastly I drew and cut out some musical accessories to complement the overall image. A bit of glitter enhances each musical note. The piece is protected in a thin black plastic frame with glass, and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Born on the West coast of the US and raised in upstate New York State I now live in the American Southwest in Tucson, AZ. Making art was my first love as a child, and art continues to impact my life every day. Although I grew up in a small town I had a lot of artistic influence from my family; my father loved art & played musical instruments, one of his brothers was a professional artist, my mother always encouraged making hand-made gifts and cards, and two of my five sisters are also artists.
