ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This is one of my earlier works when I was shifting away from painting and playing with the idea of collaging and layering every day items into my work. This is one of a series of six self portraits I completed during my pregnancy with my second child. With a toddler and one on the way the little things seemed to pile up. The amount of waste and what-nots that moved through my life was increasingly overwhelming. I was inundated with things I couldn't throw away fast enough. I began taking the excess and integrating it into my work beginning this year. This artwork is a wood panel ready to be framed. There is no hardware on the back for framing.

ARTIST STATEMENT The randomness of intercepting waste and the significance of collected objects as a result of casual human interaction is utilized within my work. Objects easily present themselves in abundance and as they were meant to be found. The objects are typically insignificant and at the end of their life. While holding onto their past and present meaning the items are simultaneously entangled with the future. Collected items are sorted and arranged until one sparks inspiration. From here the objects are cut, painted, configured, glued, tied or melted. This process results in mixed media works full of color, energy and controlled randomness. ABOUT ME
