About The Artwork

This mixed media acrylic painting on canvas was inspired by a trip to Newfoundland that I took last summer. During my visit to this province, I was impressed by the dramatic scenery, the icebergs in winter, moose on the road, the colourful, painted houses and the people who lived there. In spite of the brutal weather, even in summer, the place vibrated with color. The self deprecating humour and friendliness of Newfoundlanders will stay with me forever. I sought to create a painting that would highlight some of the elements I described above. The best vehicle to do this was through naive folk art, a style I had not attempted before.

Myra Evans is a visual artist living and working in Toronto, Canada and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. After retiring from a long, rewarding career as a high school teacher and administrator, Myra discovered the joys of painting, especially using water media. After 15 years of creating impressionistic water colour portraits, she is now experimenting with acrylics, pastels ,hand made paper, collage/texturizing techniques, inks and watercolours. Exploring abstraction using figurative images with alternative mediums has been an on-going adventure. Her time and energy has been focused on developing as a painter. Art making for Myra is a life long process.
