VIEW IN MY ROOM
Lee Kelly started making art inspired by Jackson Pollock and others from the great age of American Abstract Expressionism. By 2014 Lee was beginning to return to the figure for inspiration. This series of three nude studies are based on photographic slides (remember those?) taken sometime in the 1970's. A model posed in and around Lee's sculptures and Lee took photos on slide film. Years later, these slides were transferred to digital media. Lee printed and reworked the images; painting, scanning and printing them again to achieve the flat surface. The gold framing element is 14 carat gold leaf applied to add unexpected depth. The effect is painterly and lush, and you can almost feel the warm summer day over forty years ago. This is the third piece in the series and the reverse side has another, less finished version of the image. The mounting board is quite a bit larger than the others in the series, measuring 19" x 15".
